East Asia under the Indo-Pacific Concept : a New Deal in the Making – Débat Asie with Prof. Tien Hung-mao

The election of Donald Trump and the subsequent “new deal” in the Indo-Pacific region with specific regards to East Asia has introduced factors of uncertainties. Meanwhile in Taiwan a new administration has worked to find the appropriate breathing space and key elements to rebalance the island’s positioning. As a long timer in the practice and study of international relations, Prof. Tien will express his personal views on the current and future paths for Taiwan and the region.

The Author
Pr Tien holds a PhD in politics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is the author of numerous books and articles. After a long academic career in the US, Prof. Tien served as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2000 to 2002 and then as Representative for Taipei in the U.K.
Prof. Tien has established the Evergreen Foundation, which then became the Chang Yung-fa foundation, as a think-tank based in Taiwan and working on international relations. Upon his return to Taiwan he was appointed Head of Institute for National Policy Research (INPR), which Pr K’uo is Executive Director of.
