On February 17, at the “Maison de la Culture du Japon”, François Issard, Member of the Executive Committee of Asia Centre, was invited to the Round Table “Energy Transition in Japan” under the aegis of the French Association of Former Fellows in Japan (AFABJ) and the Embassy of Japan.
After introductory remarks by Nicolas Mazzucchi (French Navy Center for Strategic Studies) and a keynote speech by Toru Kajiwara of the IEA taking stock of Japan’s energy supply difficulties in a context of hesitant recovery of the nuclear power sector and tensions on the global LNG market, François Issard (Asia Centre) and Christophe Xerri (ex-Mitsubishi NF and IAEA) joined the panel that discussed the respective contributions and potential developments of nuclear after the Fukushima accident, renewables and hydrogen in Japan’s energy strategy.
The panel then answered questions from the audience on various topics, including societal acceptability, environmental, geothermal potential, and geoengineering.
