A lecture by Prof. Manoranjan Mohanty
Manoranjan Mohanty, after retiring as Professor of Political Science of University of Delhi is currently vice-president of the Council for Social Development, New Delhi and Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Chinese Studies, Delhi, which he contributed to establish and has chaired. The Institute is today a leading Indian think tank on Chinese affairs. A former Editor of China Report, he is currently the Editor of Social Change.His publications include Ideology Matters: China from Mao Zedong to Xi Jinping (2014). Professor Mohanty has also been involved with the Boao Forum for Asia, since its inception by China in 2001.
China’s Transformation. Success Story and the Success Trap, his last book, published recently by Sage India, addresses the success of the Chinese economic policy, but also its shortcomings, in terms of inequality, regional disparity, environment, people’s rights. Keeping in mind the contemporary global concerns in development theory, the book comments on the viability of the model of “growth with Chinese characteristics”, and offers comparisons with the Indian quest for development.
