China, the French-speaking Pacific, and Contemporary Geopolitics – Débats Asie with Anne-Marie Brady

The debate will take place on Thursday June 14, at 9:00 at Inalco, 2 rue de Lille (Paris 7), Les Salons.
Within a relatively short period China has become a leading player in the South Pacific and multiple Chinese political and economic actors are engaging with the region. This talk discusses the range of China’s interests in the South Pacific and how they connect to China’s broader geopolitical interests, and raises the question on how these may impact on France’s own interests in the French-speaking Pacific as well as Indian, and Southern Ocean.
With the participation of SE. Christian Lechervy, Ambassadeur, représentant permanent de la France auprès de la Communauté du Pacifique et du Programme régional océanien de l’environnement (PROE) et Secrétaire permanent pour le Pacifique.
